PBIS: Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Desert Trails Preparatory Academy is always working to empower life-long learners and strive for excellence. Part of that means ensuring our students have a clear foundation not only academically, but clear expectations with behavior as well. As part of developing these behavioral skills, DTPA will be implementing a Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) system, “PRIDE”. This system defines, teaches, and supports appropriate behavior to create a positive school environment where teachers can teach and students can learn. As a school, positive expectations have been set for all areas including classrooms, playgrounds, bathrooms and the MPR.
DTPA PRIDE Expectations are
Proactive
Respectful
Integrity
Diligence
Ensure Safety
Other PRIDE components include:
- A matrix of behavioral expectations
- Pride Tickets – This is an acknowledgement system used to reinforce positive behaviors. Scholars collect tickets in order to earn raffle tickets for weekly school drawings and monthly PRIDE Trait acknowledgement.
- Behavior Incident Reports (BIR) – This report is given to address minor or major behavioral infractions. It is use to monitor student behaviors when needed.
PRIDE is off to a great start this school year! We are now asking for parental support of our school-wide behavioral expectations. Attached you will find our school matrix and suggested home matrix. Teachers are doing a great job with teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors to promote learning. We ask for your continued support of these expectations. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher at any time.
Thank you,
PBIS TEAM for DTPA:
